The United States won second place in the 2026 Winter Olympics! On February 6th, the ceremony opened in Milan and Cortina D’ampezzo, which is the first time the games have been hosted by two cities.
Team USA has set a new record for the most gold medals at a Winter Olympics, winning 12 gold medals. The previous record was set in 2002 in Salt Lake City at 10 gold medals. Over 90 nations competed in 116 events across 16 sports. The United States graciously placed second overall, with Norway (18) winning first, and Italy placed third (10). One of the fastest Olympic skiers, Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo from Norway, returned to the ice and won all six cross country skiing events. His performance was historic, becoming the most awarded in winter Olympic history.
Coincidentally, both the United States men’s and women’s hockey teams won gold by defeating Canada 2–1 in their finals. It’s the first time both teams won the same game in the same ceremony. Hockey player Hilary Knight, who scored, told People magazine,“It felt like a true storybook ending for me”. The athlete will likely retire before the next Olympic Games take place in 2030. Jack Hughes was highlighted for scoring against Canada. Athletes have demonstrated their passion, enthusiasm, and drive for their careers. Gaining notoriety recently, Alysa Liu has been the center of the Olympics. Since the competition, she has gained over 5 million followers on Instagram. Her 60-minute interview has reached 2.4 million views. She became the first American woman to win individual figure skating gold in 24 years. She also appeared on the cover of Teen Vogue.
Watching the Olympics is unforgettable. It’s endearing to witness how much dedication athletes put into their work. The next Summer Olympics will be held in 2028, featuring events such as swimming, gymnastics, cycling, basketball, volleyball, soccer, and combat sports.
