In the world today amongst the many battles going on, the rising war in the Middle East seems to have captured the attention of the world. Reports from many news agencies have covered bombings, assassinations, and casualties for both sides. An NBC News article states,”The U.S. military announced the death of another U.S. service member, bringing the total killed in combat to seven.” Although American armed forces have had casualties, this overlooks the people who have been hit the hardest. An article from Al-Jazeera about casualties stated, ”At least 1,255 people have been killed in Iran, including 200 children and 11 healthcare workers.” Regardless of what side of the war we view. The presence of casualties and death tolls is rising, and this poses the question. Is this war really necessary, and if so, what gain does each side get from it?
The war between Iran and the United States has now spread to many other countries. Currently, 9+ countries have been pulled into the war, with some of the bigger powers such as China arguing at the UN Security Council that ”the U.S. strikes are violations of international law.” Axios suggests Iran has more Middle Eastern support than the United States. The list goes on to include ”Russia, Turkey, Yemen, Syria, Egypt, and North Korea.”
Although Iran and the United States are the direct powers fighting, many surrounding nations have been caught in the crossfire, such as the United Arab Emirates and Lebanon. According to many sources, Lebanon, the country residing alongside northern Israel, has been bombed for no reason at all. Israel has justified these bombings, but Israel is known for hiding information from the public. This raises the question, though, what did Lebanon have to do with this war, and why are there no repercussions for these unreasonable operations against them?
Over the last couple of days, Iran has focused its firepower, as this CNN news article puts it, ”against what it’s called US ‘bases’ and ‘strategic interests’ in neighboring Arab countries, with the rest directed at Israel.” The article makes a further interesting point, saying, ”More projectiles have been fired at the UAE than at any other. country, seemingly even more than Israel, which, alongside the US, started this war.” This isn’t just a war between two big powers anymore, but between the nations surrounding this war. Many Americans have shown their aggression through protests and online backlash against Trump, telling him,”We don’t need another war”, on Twitter.
If you analyze all the information and connect all the facts, you should be able to realize that there is no reason for either side to be fighting. Even if we damage Iran’s infrastructure, the war unreasonably utilizes taxpayer dollars, creates mass destruction, and ends up leaving the effort to soldiers and civilians to solve the on-site issues none of the presidents want to touch.
