It has been announced that Bad Bunny, a Latino Artist, is going to perform during halftime for the next Super Bowl. Lewandowski, a former campaign manager for Donald Trump, recently stated, “There is nowhere you can provide a safe haven to people who are in this country illegally. Not the Super Bowl and nowhere else. We will find you and apprehend you and put you in a detention facility and deport you”.

For Latino teenagers in Flushing, this might feel personal. To many, Bad Bunny isn’t just “some celebrity”, but someone who represents us as Latinos. “I don’t want to be fake. I’m just being me, and I have the power to break stereotypes and whatever useless rules that society puts on us”. -Bad Bunny. While making music, he makes sure he stands up, represents his people, and he also spends the money he makes from his tours on Puerto Rico’s economy, at a certain time of the year when it least attracts visitors.

Although Bad Bunny is a U.S. citizen, he took precaution and avoided touring in the 50 states of the U.S. Some people hated this idea and claimed that he was “Anti-American”. “But there was the issue that … ICE could be outside (my concert venue). And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about”. Many say it was unnecessary to tour if he was skipping the 50 states. Although nothing is wrong with the fact that he is trying to protect his people.

He came out with a song in his recent album “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS” called “NUEVAYoL” which included an AI-generated voice of Donald Trump saying “I made a mistake. I want to apologize to the immigrants of America. … I want to say that there is nothing without the immigrants. This country is nothing without Mexicans, Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Colombians, Venezuelans, Cubans”. Fans felt proud when he dropped this. He really took a stand and showed how he isn’t scared of those who oppose him.

Overall, the future of the Super Bowl is uncertain. Will Bad Bunny still perform after they threatened ICE against him and his fans? Or will he still perform, despite the risk of ICE being present at the Super Bowl?
