We are the Flushing High School Newspaper! Let’s give you the run down by interviewing ourselves! 

Hi Gargoyle Staff! Thanks for giving this interview. So, to start off, what is the Mission Statement of The Gargoyle?

-Great question! Our Mission Statement is probably something like: Giving a Voice to the Students at Flushing.  As the school newspaper, we want to give the students a voice. What we think matters, so this should be a place where we can speak about the things that are happening right now. Maybe other students will feel the same way, too.

Great Answer! Okay. Next Question. What are your Goals as a Newspaper?

– Our goals as a newspaper? Hmm. That’s a huge question. Really, if we were to state our biggest and most important goal it would be to keep the students of Flushing INFORMED! Information! News!  We want to be a place where students here at Flushing can come and not only see what’s going on in the school but also in the world around us. 

Wow. Those are some awesome goals! Why is a School Newspaper an important part of a High School community?

– A school newspaper is an important part of a school community because you’re actually hearing about things right from another student. It’s not adults. It’s us. And the hope that we all have is that we become a place where you can come and let us give you a heads up on something new, or important, or something you should check out. 

That’s really interesting. So let’s really get down to one of those “hard hitting” questions. The ones that reporters ask that make you sweat! Okay, here it goes. Get ready for it: Why should FHS students read these stories?

– Oh, that’s easy. FHS students should read these stories because they were written by fellow students, just like them. We want to write stories that will help break down these huge things that are going on around us. Maybe there’s a new tv show that everyone keeps talking about, or some big news story, we want to tell you why that is and break it down for you in a way that feels like your friend is explaining something to you. 

Finally, when do new stories come out?

-New stories come out Bi-Weekly. Twice a month we plan on flooding the Gargoyle Online site with new stories to keep it fresh and current. 

Wow, thanks for the interview, Gargoyle staff! It’s a really cool project that you’ve all been a part of, launching the school newspaper ONLINE! It’s the first time its been done and it’s been a lot of work over the winter but now it’s spring and finally time to show everyone!
